When to Extract & What to Expect

The decision to extract a tooth is sometimes necessary. An extraction is complete removal of a tooth from its socket. This can be the result of caries/decay, periodontal disease, abscess, trauma, or crowding. Typically, when a tooth is extracted, it is recommended that something be placed in the socket or hole for optimal healing. At Crosstown Dentistry, we use MinerOss allograft bone to regenerate the socket and create an ideal environment for future dental implant placement. This bone grafting procedure occurs right at the time of tooth extraction so there’s no need for a second surgical procedure. In contrast, if a patient does not desire tooth replacement, we place a resorbable BioPlug to prevent post-operative complications. If a tooth cannot be saved, an extraction and graft is a safe and predictable procedure.
